KJ Matthews is a veteran journalist who has worked in the broadcast news business for nearly two decades. She started her career working as a reporter and producer for CBS, ABC, and FOX-TV affiliates nationwide. While crisscrossing the country, she wrote, produced, and reported on a historic vice presidential debate; landmark court cases; post-9/11 safety; and many other milestone events. She was also part of editorial teams that won both Peabody and Emmy Awards.

Her most notable work was seen on CNN. At the network she covered the media and entertainment landscapes for a decade. Her TV, film, music, media, and breaking news reports appeared on CNN, CNN International, and HLNtv on the following shows: “AC 360,” “The Situation Room,” “New Day,” “CNN Tonight with Don Lemon,” “Erin Burnett OutFront,” “Larry King Live,” “Nancy Grace,” and “Morning Express with Robin Meade.” She was also one of the producers for CNN’s award-winning special, “CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute.”

Outside of broadcast news, she has also worked in TV syndication, writing and producing for the Emmy Award-winning show, “Extra.”

Currently her work appears on BBC World Service Radio, BBC World News TV, Germany’s DW English Network, and the Australian Broadcasting Network.

She holds a bachelor’s degree from UCLA and a master’s degree from New York University in broadcast journalism.

Recently, she founded the Eco-luxury digital travel magazine “Traveler Confidential.” The digital site offers news, tips, and resources for health & wellness travelers, luxury travelers, and the sustainability traveler.

Joel Eisenberg, Partner, Council Tree Productions

Joel Eisenberg is a writer-producer, whose Amazon bestselling fantasy saga with co-author Steve Hillard, “The Chronicles of Ara,” was developed by Ovation TV for an 8-hour miniseries in 2015. He has also developed or sold projects to FOX Studios (“Letters of a Drugstore Cowboy”) CBS and Decades Network (“Then Again with Herbie J Pilato”), TNT (“Tales from the Crypt”), Roddenberry Entertainment (“Race to Space”), Buffalo 8 (“Farway Canyon”), Cinemax (“Shutterbugs”), Shout Factory TV (“Then Again” for streaming) and upcoming startup Terror TV (“Vincent Price’s Shadow Show” and “Terror Talk”), among others. Since 2001, Joel has written and/or executive produced several feature films, including the multi-award-winning drama “Out of the Black,” winner of over a dozen U.S. film festival awards, and “April Showers,” based on the Columbine school shooting tragedy. Following its theatrical and initial DVD platform, April Showers received a special commendation from the U.S. House of Representatives, and was distributed by Warner Brothers for its VOD run. In 2017, Joel formed Council Tree Productions with writer and private equity investor Steven Hillard. The company is primarily developing long-form television content.

For books, “The Chronicles of Ara” is an ongoing series of fantasy novels. Joel has also written “How to Survive a Day Job,” a motivational tome with contributions from Clive Barker, Brad Meltzer and numerous other bestselling authors and public figures, and “Championship Networking.

Julia Verdin, Veteran Filmmaker, Founder of Artists For Change

Veteran filmmaker Julia Verdin is a multi hyphenate – she is known as an accomplished producer, writer, and as an award-winning Director.

Julia is also known as a leading educator in film: her book Success in Films, a guide to developing, funding, producing, and marketing independent films is on many college syllabuses around the world and has helped many filmmakers.  She speaks regularly on film for many organizations including BAFTA, Women In Film, WGA, AFM panels and Story Expo.  Julia is also a top independent film consultant and has helped many filmmakers get their films made.  She has an MA in film from Staffordshire University.

Some of the memorable, acclaimed theatrical releases and top film festival favorites Julia has produced, include 2 Jacks, directed by Bernard Rose, based on the Leo Tolstoy short story “Two Hussars”: the film starred Danny Huston, Jack Huston, Sienna Miller, Jacqueline Bisset and Billy Zane; Stander, directed by Bronwen Hughes starring Thomas Jane, Deborah Unger, Dexter Fletcher and David O’Hara; Sony Pictures Classics released The Merchant of Venice, directed by Michael Radford, starring Al Pacino, Jeremy Irons and Joseph Fiennes; and Riding The Bullet  based on a Stephen King story, directed by Mick Garris, starring David Arquette, Jonathan Jackson, Erica Christensen and Barbara Hershey. Julia’s faith-based film, The Least Among You a Lionsgate release, starring Lou Gossett Jr., Lauren Holly and William Devane, featured in major festivals and was nominated for two N.A.A.C.P awards.  Julia also Executive Produced the 2015 Lionsgate release Born of War, directed by Vicky Jewson, starring James Frain and Sophia Black D’Elia. 

Julia’s films have been selected for many major film festivals including Sundance, Toronto, Venice, AFI, Raindance, Vancouver International and London. 

She is also the founder of Artists For Change, a non-profit that creates media to raise awareness on key social issues and known for her philanthropy and passion to raise awareness on key social issues.

Julia received the La Femme 2015 Executive Achievement Award and was honored for her work in film and supporting female filmmakers and served on the board of BAFTA LA for 10 years.

Dr. Raye Mitchell, CEO and founder of The Winning Edge Institute, Inc

Raye Mitchell is on a mission. Mitchell is committed to being part of the amazing journey and united efforts to help young Black women and girls assert their power and their presence.  For far too long their voices have been muted, their stories ignored and their experiences have been rendered invisible.  Mitchell wants to help build bridges and lend to a positive effort to find peace and common ground based on mutual respect, equality and share visions of justice and inclusion.

Mitchell is the founder of the New Reality Foundation, Inc., and CEO at the Winning Edge Institute Inc. She is a power and influence expert, attorney, author, speaker and activist.  Mitchell is a member of the Time’s Up Legal Defense Fund network providing legal support for women and girls affected by harassment. Mitchell has received national acclaim for her work mentoring women and girls of color to help them beat the odds and excel as leaders.

Mitchell is a graduate of Harvard Law School, the University of Southern California (USC), the USC Sol Price School of Public Policy (B.S.) and the USC Marshall School of Business (MBA).  She is a native of Los Angeles, California.
